Poland striker Robert Lewandowski was presented with the Bundesliga goalscorers' cannon as the German league's top striker after adding another goal in Saturday's 3-1 defeat of relegated Hanover. The goal was Lewandowski's 30th in the league for the Bundesliga champions this season, five better than Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He is only the sixth player in Bundesliga history to reach the 30-goal mark and his tally is the highest since Dieter Mueller's 34 for Cologne in 1976-1977. It is the second time 27-year-old Lewandowski has topped the goalscoring charts following the 2013-2014 season when he notched 20 for Borussia Dortmund, and he is the first Bayern player to be leading scorer since Mario Gomez in 2010-2011. Lewandowski's goalscoring feats included four world records when he struck five goals in nine minutes as a second-half substitute against Wolfsburg in September. The season's goalscoring record is still held by Bayern Munich's Germany striker legend Gerd Mueller who struck 40 in the 1971-1972 season. Two seasons previously he scored 38 and the following season netted 36, while topping the scoring charts seven times, five of those with at least 30 goals. | |||
